Our top seven canopy trend predictions for 2025!

As leaders in creating canopy solutions for those at the top of their game we’re well positioned to spot future design trends. Here are our top predictions for the year ahead…

  1. It’s going to be the year of outside dining: The canopy for schools trend is continuing! During the pandemic the nation developed a love of outside dining that has never left us, and we predict we’ll see more and more schools and holiday attractions installing imaginative outdoor dining canopies to create inviting social spaces. Check out Manor Drive Secondary School, Tattershall Lakes Skybar and Drayton Manor’s outdoor picnic area for inspiration.
  2. Schools will continue to go MUGA-mad! A decade ago, most school sports facilities were uncovered, but today schools are waking up to the huge benefits of covered MUGAs (multi-use games areas). Not only do covered sports facilities get used more often, but they last longer too. Better still, they can even be hired out to create valuable new revenue raising opportunities. Check out St Hugh’s School in North Lincolnshire and Essex Primary School in Newham, London to see what can be achieved with our MUGA canopies.
  3. Future proofing: Many of our clients – particularly in the booming padel sector – are experiencing such a growth in demand for their covered facilities that they’re opting to future proof their canopy designs so they can add to them over time. Manchester Padel Club is a case in point. Having installed a padel court cover for the club’s centre court in Summer 2024, we’re going to be back again this Spring to install padel court canopies over two more of the club’s courts thanks to high demand for covered court facilities.
  4. Weather protection is going to become increasingly important: With long-term climate predictions pointing to our weather becoming milder but wetter over time, we predict that more and more sectors will wake up to the importance of shielding customers and service users with imaginative canopy solutions. Discover how we help everyone from the emergency services to top names in the retail and holiday and visitor attraction sectors to enhance their visitors’ experiences.
  5. We’ll see more and more sustainable canopy solutions: From solar panelling to sedum roofs, living walls and canopies covering electric vehicle charging points in car parks, we predict that 2025 is going to be the year we see sustainability go mainstream as a roofing and canopy option. Discover everything you need to know about sustainable canopy and roofing options.
  6. We’re going to continue to scale up: As the demand for outdoor living continues to gather pace across the UK, we predict that we’ll see increasing demand for large scale hybrid outdoor spaces – whether that’s retail spaces in garden centres or hybrid indoor/outdoor sports facilities. Check out the vast 42m x 42m canopy we designed and installed at Bradford Park Avenue to create the world’s first hybrid cricket training facility. And discover how we worked with Simpsons Garden Centre to create the largest outdoor retail space of its kind in the UK – measuring a vast 52m x 25m.
  7. Re-purpose, re-enjoy: Upcycling has become a huge consumer trend in the last few years and we’re seeing it also becoming a growing trend in our line of work. Discover how we worked with Trowell Garden Centre in 2024 to upgrade an existing steel canopy into a fully insulated new retail space as part of their ambitious upgrade programme.
