Lots of companies now talk about sustainability, but for us it’s far more than a tick in the box. Having a sustainable approach is at the heart of everything we do.
So, if you choose to work with us, you can rest assured that we’ll do everything we can to ensure that your structure will enhance the environment it’s in today, tomorrow and into the future.
10 ways we can help you meet your sustainability commitments:
Our design team makes it their mission to ensure that all our structures blend in with their environment – whether urban, parkland or rural.
All our site surveys include comprehensive recommendations for rainwater management and preservation.
We offer solar / PV charging canopies as standard, helping you reduce your energy consumption and costs.
Our pioneering green roof systems add insulation, facilitate rainwater run-off and collection, and can even promote carbon capture. In fact, one square metre of green roof can absorb 5kg of CO2 annually.
Our green roofs also promote biodiversity and become valuable homes for bees, butterflies and beautiful wildflowers.
All Fordingbridge structures are designed and manufactured on the same UK site – keeping our carbon footprint low during production.
We only ever use sustainably sourced timber and rigorously check our supply chains’ values to ensure they align with ours ethically and sustainably.
Our unique Opal 60 roof canopies allow up to 60% natural daylight to penetrate whilst eliminating harmful UV rays, to create a beautiful natural environment whilst reducing your daylight lighting costs.
All our structures are built to last and come with industry-leading 25-year guarantees.
We only ever use materials that are recyclable at the end of the product’s lifecycle.
“I’ve got two grown up children and want them and their families to experience a world that is every bit as beautiful as the one I have known. That’s why I’m so proud to work for a company that helps others minimise their footprint and enhance their communities and environments.”
Steve Toone, Managing Director, Fordingbridge
2003
We significantly extend our West Sussex factory to cope with growing demand. This allows us to design and manufacture all our builds at a single UK site to keep our carbon footprint low during production.
2010
We blaze a trail in the sustainability field designing and building the Greenpower Centre in West Sussex, incorporating air source heat pumps, straw bale walling, rainwater harvesting, smart lighting and underfloor heating. The innovative build wins a coveted Arun District Design award.
2010
We build to last and become the UK’s first canopy provider to give all our structures an industry leading warranty. The majority of materials used in our constructions are also fully recyclable at the end of their life.
2010
We install our very first green roof on the Greenpower Centre building. We’ve since installed hundreds of green roofs across the UK, including at Colchester Zoo, London Zoo and on bike shelters at the University of Cambridge. Green roofs have become increasingly popular as a simple way for clients to enhance biodiversity on their sites as well as create attractive, well insulated spaces.
2015
We collaborate with coffee giant Costa, to create the UK’s very first zero energy coffee retail outlet. The innovative pod won Energy Efficient Partnership of the Year and the Supreme Judges Award at The Energy Awards 2015.
2017
Our team is commissioned to design and construct six cycle shelters – all with green roofs – on Cambridge University’s Biomedical campus. One square metre of our pioneering green roofing systems can absorb 5kg of CO2 annually.
2021
Our sales staff all start using hybrid cars and we install an EV charger in our car park that can be used free of charge by our staff and guests.
2022
On the back of the huge success of Costa’s first zero energy outlet we build the coffee retailer two further zero energy ‘coffee pods’ in Swansea and Cumbria. All three pods are awarded an Energy Asset Rating of A+
2023
We’re big believers in creating energy from renewable sources and install solar panels on our Fordingbridge factory building, enabling us to substantially reduce our dependence on the national grid.
2024
Our team designs and installs our first ever EV charging canopy at an office development in Hampshire – an evolution in canopies that we expect to become the gold standard of the future.
2024
We introduce solar panel canopies into our portfolio, creating an easy way for our clients to reduce their energy costs and accelerate their sustainability ambitions.
