Proud to support small businesses to grow in big ways

This coming Saturday (7th December) is Small Business Saturday – a grassroots campaign highlighting small business successes and encouraging consumers to ‘shop local’ wherever possible. Here at Fordingbridge, we’re immensely proud of the work we do to support small businesses across the UK to turbo charge their success…

As a business that was started from a humble caravan in the 1960s, we know all about passion, dedication and resilience it takes to set up a small business from scratch and to turn it into a thriving concern.

That’s why some of the projects we’re most proud of, are the projects that fast-track other small businesses on the road to success. Sometimes even relatively small upgrade projects – when carefully thought through and executed – can have a transformative impact. Here are just a few of our favourite examples of how we’ve helped small and family businesses over the years…

All-weather canopy protection for a busy high street

We helped a forward-looking landlord to entice Rustington residents to shop local and support the many small independent businesses that sit alongside national chains in Rustington centre by creating a more cohesive, smart feel to the shopping environment.

The solution? Identical retail canopies that run the full length of both sides of the high street to provide all-weather shelter and an inviting shopping experience.

The high street upgrade has been a resounding success, with all shops reporting significant upturn in footfall since the installation.

A new garden centre canopy draws in increased visitor numbers

Family run Smith’s Nurseries and Garden Centres, came to us wanting a complete reimagination of their shopping experience, focused around a new entrance canopy to entice shoppers in.

The result? An 8m x 30m barrel-vaulted, timber framed entrance that created a brand new sheltered entrance area that also doubles up as a new display space for showcasing seasonal plants and products.

The beautiful timber used in the structure helps the centre to convey its quality ethos and focus on sustainability, while the creation of such an enticing new entrance has had a transformative impact on footfall.
