WE’VE GOTEDUCATIONCOVERED

When Blatchington Mill High School in Hove was looking to create an outdoor dining space their students would love they didn’t need to look far for inspiration or expertise…
Our relationship with Blatchington Mill goes back almost two decades. In the Summer of 2007, we were brought in to tackle a familiar challenge: an exposed area between two buildings that did little more than funnel bad weather across the site. Our solution was bold. A 29m x 19m atrium canopy that transformed the bleak wind tunnel into a bright covered courtyard that quickly became the heart of the school.
Fast forward 20 years and we were delighted to be invited back for chapter two. With the existing dining hall under pressure, Blatchington Mill wanted to rethink how and where students ate. The result? A striking 13m x 9m barrel-vaulted, timber-framed dining canopy that totally reimagines the lunchtime experience.
Sheltered, light-filled and welcoming the new space gives students the freedom to enjoy fresh air and a change of scenery – no matter what the British weather has in store! It also adds another flexible, future-proof space to the school’s estate.
