Popular school commissions us for a big second project

With 1600+ students Blatchington Mill School in Hove, Brighton is constantly looking for ways to enhance daily school life for its large student body. Several years ago, we enclosed a huge courtyard in the centre of the school to make a large all-weather space at the heart of the school site that has since become the school’s hub – a congregating space at the start of each day, and a valued way of improving flow across the busy school site.

With our first all-weather canopy significantly improving school life, the team at Blatchington Mill came back to us this year looking to once again enhance daily school life. This time they were looking for an extension to their bursting-at-the-seams dining hall…

The wow

The team at Blatchington Mill was keen that the new all-weather dining area should not only provide practical additional space but should also be an attractive addition to the school’s site.

With aesthetics so key to this build, our design team came up with a stunning glulam timber framed all-weather dining canopy that will blend beautifully with the trees and greenery around the school site.

A polycarbonate roof and gable ends provide strong weather protection especially from driving rain, whilst still enabling light to flood the area below, creating an airy and welcoming dining and social space that can be used in all seasons.

And because of our sector leading 25-year guarantees – that come with all our structures – Blatchington Mill School can rest easy knowing that this valuable new addition to their school grounds will be enjoyed – like their covered courtyard – for decades to come!
