School MUGA Canopy – All-Weather Sports Facilities

In the last decade we’ve seen one facility soar in popularity across the education sector – covered multi-use games areas (MUGAs). And it’s easy to see why. MUGA canopies transform a school’s sports experience overnight – from fair weather to all-weather!

These barrel-vaulted canopies create light, bright playing environments that can be enjoyed whatever the weather is doing outside. And their generous eaves height means that all kinds of games from football and netball through to tennis and basketball can be enjoyed in the hybrid indoor / outdoor sports spaces they create. Saltash Community School in Cornwall was so convinced of the benefits that they turned to us to design and install their new MUGA canopy as well as a new outdoor dining space using the same canopy design.

The first MUGA canopy is 31m long with a 17.5m span and 4.5m eaves height, while the covered outdoor dining space is 22.5m long with a 10m span and 3.5m eaves height. The bespoke dimensions and designs of both canopies demonstrate the benefit of working in close partnership with our expert in-house education team and designers – a partnership that enables you to make the very most of the unique footprint of your site.

Delivered over the winter, Saltash Community School’s new MUGAs allowed training, sports lessons, after-school clubs and inter-school competitions to take place in deluges of rain, windy conditions and even in sleet showers. And now that the sunnier months are here, students are still playing on, with the generous canopies protecting them from harmful UV rays too!
