Fordingbridge canopies transform cricket clubs into year-round hubs

The sound of willow on leather is as synonymous with English summers as Pimms and Wimbledon. But the onset of rainy, cold autumn days has always spelt the end of the season in the UK – until now…

Across the UK, a sporting shift is underway. Cricket – once ruled by the calendar – is fast becoming a four-season sport. The catalyst? Clubs discovering the game-changing potential of all-weather cricket canopies.

Having seen the huge success of the Fordingbridge installed hybrid cricket facility at Bradford Park Avenue cricket clubs across the UK are now racing to follow suit. Bradford Park Avenue was a world first – a canopy vast enough to accommodate batting and bowling practice in all weather, transforming what was once a seasonal activity into a year-round draw for the community.

The results have been impossible to ignore. Cricket clubs are discovering that with the right shelter, training doesn’t have to stop when the rain stops and as a result memberships grow and community engagement deepens.

A new benchmark: Darwen Cricket Club

Darwen Cricket Club near Blackburn is the latest club to join the year-round cricket movement. Their brand new Fordingbridge designed and installed 36m x 15m all-weather canopy has created enough space for full practice sessions whatever the elements throw at them: driving rain, biting wind and even snow!

An elegant rolled arch design creates a lofty 4.5m internal height to the canopy, giving the space a bright, open feel, while mesh ventilation inserts ensure airflow and comfort during even the toughest sessions. In warmer months our unique Opal 60 roofing fabric filters harmful UV rays – meaning the canopy protects players just as effectively on scorching summer days as it does in mid-winter storms.

With such flexible facilities transforming club play, it’s no surprise that Darwen is not alone. Willenhall Cricket Club near Birmingham has unveiled a similar Fordingbridge designed and installed hybrid cricket canopy, adding to the growing list of clubs redefining cricket as a year-round community draw.
