Multi-use games areas (MUGAs) are having a moment – and for good reason. These versatile outdoor spaces are transforming how schools approach sport and play, offering year-round, all-weather access to physical activity. One standout example? St Dominic’s School in Godalming, Surrey.
As a respected specialist school supporting students with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) and Austism Spectrum Condition (ASC), St Dominic’s wanted to make better use of an underutlised part of their site. Their vision: a high-performance, weatherproof MUGA that could be used for everything from football to tennis to basketball. Crucially they were also looking for this covered MUGA area to be designed, delivered and installed by a single provider who could handle the whole process from start to finish.
And that’s where we came in!
Our expert education team worked closely with the school to design and deliver the full package – groundworks, canopy, court surface, and lighting – all completed in just a few weeks.
The showstopper? A 32m x 17.5m barrel-vaulted canopy, clad in our Opal 60 fabric that lets 6-% of natural daylight through – keeping the space bright and welcoming. Integrated lighting – sourced and installed by our team – means students can keep playing into the early evening too, perfect for clubs and tournaments.
This MUGA has transformed an overlooked corner of the school into a dynamic, multi-sport zone and it’s just one example of how schools are creatively rethinking their outdoor spaces.
