Injecting retail theatre: Our horseshoe canopy transforms outdoor plant display at Haskins

At Fordingbridge, we’re always excited to help garden centres rethink how their outdoor retail spaces perform. One of our latest projects has seen us work with Haskins Garden Centres to create a dramatic new all-weather plant display area at its popular West End centre near Southampton.

The Haskins team came to us keen to create a visually distinctive retail environment that would create real stand out. Our in-house design team’s solution? A showstopping 101-metre-long horseshoe-shaped canopy that now sweeps elegantly around Haskin’s large outdoor plant area.

As well as encouraging customers to explore the centre’s outdoor areas in uninviting weather, the striking new canopy also helps create a sense of theatre in Haskins outdoor plant area. Seasonal plant displays are now framed by the canopy’s curved lines, while the sheltered canopy environment protects shoppers and vulnerable stock from the elements and encourages greater dwell time.

A hybrid steel and timber canopy ensures that the horseshoe shaped structure sits beautifully in its outdoor setting, while our specialist Opal 60 roofing fabric – which allows 60% light transmission – creates a light-filled browsing environment.

The ambitious scheme was delivered as a full turnkey project. Our teams managed everything from groundwork and irrigation through to canopy design, manufacture, instillation and lighting – allowing the Haskins team to focus on their day-to-day operations while we handled the transformation.

Since completion, the new standout canopy has helped encourage greater footfall through the outdoor area demonstrating how thoughtfully designed all-weather structures can deliver theatre, standout and an enhanced customer experience, year-round.
