We’ve proudly worked with Haskins Garden Centres over several decades and were pleased to be approached once again with an exciting brief for their popular West End centre on the outskirts of Southampton. The ask? Create a plant display area with the wow factor that could be enjoyed in all seasons.

But this wasn’t a totally straightforward ask. Haskins wanted a design scheme that provided shelter and encouraged wider exploration of their expansive outdoor plant display area, whilst also retaining uncovered areas that could be enjoyed on fair weather days

The wow

We love a challenging brief, and our experienced inhouse design team rose to the occasion with a stunning solution. An elegant horseshoe shaped canopy now curves from one door to another enabling customers to snake their way through the expansive outdoor plant display area completely protected from the elements.

The canopy encourages far more people to explore the outdoor areas than were doing before and draws attention to seasonal plant displays that are now eye catchingly framed by the innovative horseshoe design.

The hybrid structure blends steel and wood elements for a beautiful natural look that sits easily in its outdoor setting, while our unique Opal 60 roofing screens out harmful UV rays to protect shoppers from the sun’s glare on hotter days.

The generous 13m width of the curved canopy enables Haskins to display more delicate plant stock and garden accessories under weather-protected cover while still providing plenty of space for shoppers to wander and browse.

And because our team looked after everything from design to demolition of existing structures, foundation building, irrigation, canopy manufacture and installation, the experience of creating this new standout canopy and plant display area was a seamless one for Haskins.
