We’ve had a busy summer with garden centre enhancement programmes, with two upgrades standing out as being in particularly hot demand….

We’re currently onsite at garden centres across the UK installing everything from plant display canopies to all-weather dining zones, play area canopies and stand out entrance areas. But this year, two upgrades in particular, are soaring in popularity.

We’re seeing more and more garden centres across the UK waking up to the transformative impact of covered walkways, and we’re seeing increasing numbers of centres looking to install retractable frost curtains to make plant display areas truly year-round browsing zones for customers.

Covered walkways – encourage wider exploration and browsing

Lady Green Garden Centre in Ince Blundell, Merseyside was the latest centre to invest in a covered walkway. Their new elegantly curved walkway snakes through the centre joining previously separate areas to encourage wider exploration and create a truly all-weather browsing experience. At 72m long by 6m wide the generously proportioned timber framed walkway also provides the centre with additional all-weather retail areas – perfect for displaying seasonal plants and garden ornaments.

With gardening soaring in popularity, demand for plant variety throughout the year has never been higher and we’re seeing garden centres responding with larger and larger all-weather outdoor plant display areas. The only issue? How to protect plants from harsh winter elements while still enabling shoppers to appreciate their beauty. Our answer? A move away from individually covering plants with protective meshing, to installing retractable frost curtains to canopied display areas.

These game changing frost curtains are fully automated so that they can be lowered the minute there are any signs of frost or snow, but automatically retracted at the sign of any windy conditions that could cause canopy damage.
