New padel court canopies create all-weather padel facilities for popular Rugby Club

Haywards Heath Rugby Club is a club with a strong reputation and sense of community – something the club came to us looking to build upon. The club was keen to diversify its offering with padel facilities that could be enjoyed year-round by members and non-members alike. With the club a real social hub, it was also keen to ensure that its new padel facilities enabled a great spectator and club experience.

The rugby club teamed up with leading padel provider Smash Padel to turn their vision into a reality – installing three courts to cope with anticipated demand, as well as a brand new rugby clubhouse to further enhance the community feel of the club.

Having worked with Smash Padel before to transform padel courts into all-weather facilities at their popular Smash Padel Bicester site, we were a natural partner for Smash Padel when it came to providing padel court canopy protection at their new Haywards Heath site.

Working closely with the leading padel court facilities provider, we covered two double courts and one single court with a triple span canopy measuring 24m deep x 12m x 12m x 8m wide.

The frame was powder coated in a deep green to allow the structure to blend seamlessly with the rugby pitches and common land surrounding it. This powder coating – available in bespoke colours to match surroundings or club colours – also increases structure durability.

To ensure optimal play experience the barrel-vaulted canopies were made 6m+ high each creating a light filled playing area beneath. Mesh inserts around the full padel court canopy allow air to circulate for player comfort while shielding the courts from debris like leaves and twigs – essential on the rugby club’s exposed site.

To create a top tier spectator experience the club created a dedicated spectator area next to each court with astro turf added to protect shoes from muddy ground below and even cushioned sofas and coffee tables scattered around!
