The brief
Bicester’s popular ‘Smash Padel’ courts weren’t seeing full usage as a result of the UK’s uninviting autumn and winter weather, so the club came to us hoping to enable year-round play for its members.
The response
With cost a key consideration, we advised using our entry level ‘base model’ to provide an attractive and affordable twin-span padel court canopy solution.
As weather protection was a key driver for the project, we also advised fitting tensioned mesh to the side elevations of the padel court cover. This provided valuable additional protection, with the mesh shielding players from the elements and the courts debris during windy conditions.
The padel court roof was covered in our unique Opal 60 fabric which allows 60% of daylight to permeate. This helped the club to drive down running costs as there was no need to provide artificial lighting to assist play during daylight hours.
Crucially, our Opal 60 roof fabric also provides UV protection, making it ideal for those wanting to create a truly an all-year round play experience.
The wow
Because our design and manufacturing teams work on the same Sussex site, they were able to retro-fit the new padel court canopy and steel structure to fit Bicester’s well-established courts. This helped save the club thousands in new construction costs, as well as material wastage – something we’re passionate about as a team.
