Renowned special school St Dominic’s in Surrey wanted to create all-weather sports facilities for their students, so turned to us for a turnkey solution…
St Dominic’s is a highly regarded special school in Godalming, Surrey supporting the complex needs of up to 150 pupils and students with a primary diagnosis of Speech Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) or ASC (Autism Spectrum Condition).
The school came to us looking to create a new multi-use games area (MUGA) in a part of their grounds that was currently under-utilised.
Crucially, the school was looking for the MUGA to offer a truly all-weather solution so that it could be enjoyed in all seasons. The school was also looking for a ‘turnkey’ solution, with the groundworks, courts, all-weather canopy and lighting installation all looked after by a single company.
The solution? Our expert education team at Fordingbridge worked closely with the team at St Dominic’s to ensure that the groundworks, court and canopy installation was completed in a matter of weeks.
The new MUGA has markings for football, tennis and basketball to make it as versatile as possible and is covered by a vast 17.5m deep x 32m long barrel-vaulted canopy to ensure it can be enjoyed come rain, sun, sleet or even snow.
The roof of the MUGA is covered in our unique Opal 60 fabric that allows 60% daylight penetration for a light-filled playing experience. But even when it gets dark play doesn’t need to stop, as we sourced and installed lighting for the MUGA too, so that the school got the truly turnkey solution they were hoping for.
