Meet Ethan – one of our Technical Sales Executives

Ethan is a Technical Sales Executive in our sales team and has a particular focus on supporting enquiries from the education sector, one of our key areas of speciality….

How did you get into this role Ethan?

I graduated from university a couple of years ago and this was my first role after graduating. My degree was in Marketing, and I had several years of construction experience supporting my Dad in the holidays with his kitchen & bathroom fitting business – so this role was an ideal role for me. I’ve always enjoyed working on construction projects and this job allowed me to do that whilst also developing my sales and marketing skills.

What does a typical day look like?

There isn’t a typical day and that’s what I like about the job. One day I could be in the office taking calls from customers about potential jobs, the next I could be travelling hundreds of miles to complete a detailed site survey, and the next I could be flying our drone over a completed project to get photography for our website!

What has most surprised you about the role?

When I got the job, I thought I’d just be dealing with the sales team, but my role involves talking to everyone from the Health and Safety Manager about site challenges to the Design team about customer’s unique needs and to our Project Managers about specific installation requirements.

It makes the day-to-day job much more interesting and the team much closer, which makes for a really positive, friendly and collaborative working culture.

What do you most enjoy about the role?

I love the fact that I can see a tangible outcome to my work. It’s great to take a call from a school looking for an all-weather sports solution and several months later stand under a MUGA canopy watching pupils enjoying that space!

I also love the blend of office and on the road work and the relationships I build with customers while I’m overseeing their project.

Are there any new trends you’re seeing in the education space?

For years we’ve seen an increasing demand for all-weather sports facilities but we’re also noticing an increasing demand for all-weather outdoor dining spaces. Schools are waking up to the ways in which dining canopies and all-weather dining spaces can alleviate congestion in indoor dining areas that double up as sports and assembly areas. And they’re seeing the wellbeing benefits of encouraging a greater connection with the outdoors in their students.

Our new off-the-shelf range of education canopies and shelters has also been hugely popular since its introduction this year. In today’s cost -conscious environment, they offer a practical and accessible way of transforming sites.

Finally, what do you like doing in your spare time?

I love spending time with my mates and girlfriend, chilling at the pub, watching sports or trying to play a good round of golf for once. I’m also a big football fan (which is tough being a Man United supporter!). Most of Monday’s office chat is around Fantasy Football league performance, which is either great or awful depending on how well I’m doing!
