Meet Harry: Welder, traveller and Fordingbridge enthusiast

Meet Harry, our new welder, who recently joined our factory team in our on-site workshop during one of our busiest times on record!…

So, Harry, where were you before you came to Fordingbridge. What brought you here?

I studied engineering at college and have been welding ever since. Until very recently I worked locally at a company in Climping, welding doors and windows. Having done that for six years, I recently decided to fulfil a long-held dream and went travelling in Asia for four months, which was amazing. Thailand and particularly Bangkok were my highlights.

Once I was back, I started looking for work again and saw an advert for the Fordingbridge position. It felt like serendipity that this role came up just after I’d returned from travelling as I’d always had Fordingbridge on my radar and been impressed with what they did. It was a great opportunity just at the right time and I heard back from them a day after I applied!

What makes Fordingbridge unique?

There are three main things that stand out for me:

  • I love the scale of the projects that we’re involved with. It’s exciting to weld trusses that are going to be part of huge padel projects or massive retail warehouses and to do work for some of the biggest brands in the world. That’s a chance I’ve never had before.
  • I also enjoy learning all the new skills that come with doing work on that scale. I’d only done TIG welding before coming here but I’m now learning MIG welding skills that allow me to work on much bigger projects and I’m looking forward to seeing where that takes me
  • Finally, I love the fact that although we’re working on big projects Fordingbridge is actually a relatively small company and tight knit team. Everyone knows each other, so there’s a real sense of us all having a common goal and being proud of every project we’re involved with

What three words would you use to describe Fordingbridge?

Busy, friendly, exciting

What do you like doing in your spare time?

I don’t have a huge amount of spare time at the moment, because we’re so busy in the factory (which is a good thing!). But, when I do get free time, I enjoy hanging out with my mates in the pub and I’m a sucker for watching my favourite TV series on repeat. I’ve watched Peep Show more times than I can remember and am just about to start watching Breaking Bad for the fifth time!
