Akeley Wood came to us wanting to transform an underutilised outdoor area into a sheltered space where students could gather at break times, study during lesson times, and wait for their buses at the end of the day.

The school is nestled in beautiful rolling countryside with a mix of traditional and modern buildings including an ultra-contemporary sports dome. We wanted to design a sheltered space that blended easily with each of these features whilst bringing something entirely new to the site.

Our solution? A triple tensile conic canopy that complements the school’s contemporary additions whilst reflecting the soft lines of the undulating countryside around.

The wow

The school canopy we designed provides a sheltered space whilst still allowing an all-important connection with the beautiful surroundings beyond, enabling the school to live up to its ethos of ‘offering incredible experiences both inside and outside the classroom.’
