The University of Cambridge approached us wanting to encourage sustainable commuting to their new biomedical campus, with six top-of-the-range bike shelters.
They were keen for the bike shelters to safely store hundreds of bikes, blend with the contemporary look of the rest of the campus and complement the sustainability credentials of the rest of the purpose-built campus.
The wow
Working closely with the campus team we drew up, manufactured and installed six mono pitch structures that fit seamlessly with their contemporary surroundings thanks to their sleek, minimal designs. The six mono pitch bike shelter structures shield sturdy bike lock stands ensuring that hundreds of students and lecturers a day can now travel into the campus knowing that they have secure, weather-proof bike storage waiting for them on campus.
The sleek look of the bike shelters was softened with green sedum roofs that not only provide a more attractive look, but that also encourage biodiversity across the campus. Our green roof systems tick a huge sustainability box for those looking to provide environmentally friendly facilities on their sites. Not only do they help introduce nature into urban spaces but just one square metre of green roof can capture up to 5kg of CO2 annually!
As of April 2024, any new development must now deliver a Biodiversity Net Gain of 10% – meaning that any development should result in an enhanced habitat. Our green roofing systems are a simple and effective way of meeting this by offering rich new environments for plants, insects and wildlife.
