New MUGA canopy and dining canopy transform school life

With the Cornish weather renowned for its changeability, Saltash Community School in Cornwall came to us looking to weatherproof their sports offer so that outdoor sports could be enjoyed year-round rather than for just a few weeks each year.

And the Saltash team also wanted to offer their students the ability to enjoy year-round outdoor dining, whatever the Cornish weather had in store.

One of benefits of working with our expert education team is that on our complimentary site visits they can help you identify optimal locations for your all-weather canopy – making use of unused corners, thinking about where shelter could be most beneficial, and always thinking with longevity in mind. And because they work closely with our design and manufacturing team – all from the same site – they can co-ordinate multiple jobs to minimise onsite disruption.

With this project, we installed a substantial MUGA canopy and large dining canopy at Saltash Community School, carefully planning the programme to make the most of the school holidays before continuing work during term time with minimal disruption to school life.

A large 17.5m x 31m MUGA canopy now creates a bright hybrid indoor / outdoor sports environment that shelters students from rain, wind, sleet and even bright sun, but still allows them to retain the fresh air feeling of playing sports outdoors. With a generous 4.5m eaves height the MUGA can accommodate multiple sports including 5 and 7-a-side football, netball, basketball and tennis – helping to encourage broad sports engagement across the school.

And in a different corner of the Saltash site stands another impressive 10m x 22.5m canopy covering an outdoor dining with food pod and social space that has quickly become a much-loved communal gathering area.

Both structures are made from sturdy galvanised steel and come with sector leading 25-year guarantees allowing the school to enjoy them knowing that – however harsh the Cornish climate – both canopy structures will be beneficial to school life for decades to come…
