Situated on the cliffs above a sweeping beach, Whitecliff Bay is one of the Isle of Wight’s most popular holiday parks and needs to provide all-weather facilities for its thousands of annual visitors. The team approached us with a brief to make their new play area usable year-round.
When the Whitecliff Bay team came to us wanting to make a newly installed play space even more appealing for guests, we knew exactly what needed to be done: we needed to design and create an all-weather play area featuring a playground shelter.
It was clear to us that the attractive new play space needed all-weather protection that still allowed a clear connection with the park beyond, so that parents could happily watch their children from nearby caravans and those playing or supervising within the playground shelter could enjoy the space come rain or shine.
A light triple conic tensile canopy instantly provided 144m2 of coverage over the play space without making it feel enclosed. As well as being 100% waterproof the new covering also offers UV protection – essential for a children’s recreation area that is at its busiest during the summer months.
Best of all? Because all our structures come with industry leading 25-year lifetime guarantees, the children playing under the new canopy today, might well be watching their own children play under it in years to come!
The wow
We don’t just design for the exact spot we’re in. We carefully consider the surrounding environment to ensure our designs are complementary both aesthetically and practically. In this case, the curved lines of the conic tensile canopy provide a nod to the waves on the beach below, while the powder coated steel frame has been chosen for its anti-corrosive properties – ideal for coastal environments.
