New canopy to provide extra all-weather outdoor dining space

With its largest ever Year 7 intake, Pitville School approached us wanting to increase outdoor dining space as part of an ambitious programme of building projects.

Following an onsite survey we agreed a 11.75m x 14 m barrel vaulted canopy would be the best option for the outdoor dining space, with the school canopy providing weather protection against sun, rain and snow, to enable the previously underutilised space to be used at all times of year.

The attractive vaulted ceiling created a feeling of space under the canopy and also provided sufficient height for a new mini ‘food pod’ underneath – a wood clad snack station with serving hatch that made the new area one of the most popular across the school’s site.

The wow

Pitville School’s canopy shows how a relatively small investment can totally transform a school’s spaces and environment. Creating a popular outside dining space enabled the school to alleviate pressure in the previously overcrowded main hall, creating an instantly more relaxing environment for everyone at break times.
