The brief
We were approached by an architect who had been tasked with helping Bexhill Academy to upgrade an existing netball court to allow for year-round play.
The response
Sustainability is a real priority for us and so as much as we love designing projects from scratch, we’re also passionate about making the best of existing facilities by upgrading them in ingenious ways.
In this case, we came up with a bespoke solution to mount a new barrel-vaulted canopy framework to an existing wall surrounding an adjacent 3G pitch. This solution was both cost effective for the school and allowed the new netball court canopy to sit easily in its surroundings, with the result that it now looks like an integral feature rather than an ‘add on’.
When we are working with schools, we are always particularly mindful of minimising disruption, so all work was completed during the summer holidays, with the enhanced area open in time for students to enjoy throughout the autumn and winter – come rain, sleet, or snow!
The wow
Our in-house design team is used to collaborating with architects, planning offices, and building contractors, and has an in-depth knowledge of planning requirements, which makes the process of upgrading your sports facilities straight forward and hassle free for your team.
For this netball court canopy our in-house designers worked closely with the architect firm who had commissioned us, to provide drawings for planning – which were instantly approved – as well as a detailed build programme of works, to aid the tender process.
