Case study

A striking ambulance bay canopy for a busy Emergency Department

Leighton Hospital

Leighton Hospital Leighton Hospital Leighton Hospital Leighton Hospital

The brief

We were approached by a national main contractor to provide a new ambulance bay canopy as part of an ambitious new two-storey extension to the Emergency Department of Leighton Hospital in Cheshire.

The response

Working in collaboration with the architect and main contractor we designed a 65m long canopy with a striking zinc galvanized finish to give the entrance to the hospital’s newly enhanced Emergency Department a bright, welcoming, contemporary look.

The wow

A beautiful curved gullwing design allowed for a 4m clear span to the front of the section to provide spacious all-weather cover for ambulances and their working crews. The ambulance bay canopy then dipped down to a lower 1.6m section to the rear to provide a cosier, more sheltered feel for patients and visitors seeking fresh air outside the A&E department.
