Creating all-weather shelter for valuable holiday park equipment

The brief

Go-karting is one of the most popular activities across Haven Holiday parks, but running this activity comes with its challenges in our unpredictable climate.

With the British weather not the kindest to go-kart frames, the team at Haven came to us about a holiday park canopy; wanting to create a new fire-retardant, all-weather shelter at their popular Thorpe Park site, following the success of a similar project at their All Hallows site.

The response

The shelter needed to provide true all-weather protection for 50+ go-karts – a tall ask – so we created a generous 5.26m x 14m canopy covered in our exclusive Opal 60 fabric. This roofing finish comes with a number of benefits, including:

• Being fire retardant.
• Having sustainability benefits: With 60% natural daylight penetration it helps conserve energy by reducing the need for artificial lighting.
• Having inbuilt UV protection: Helping protect visitors from harmful UV rays.

We always design with both beauty and practicality in mind. In this case, the use of a timber holiday park canopy enabled the new shelter to blend seamlessly with the park’s much-loved natural surroundings, while scalloped edging to the roofing provided a visual link with the frame’s sweeping timber arches and additional coverage against driving rain.
