Primary school invests in cycle shelter to encourage environmentally friendly travel

Gomer Infant School’s active Parent Teacher’s Association (PTA) had raised funds for a bike shelter for the school to provide secure all-weather protection for the growing number of bikes and scooters being ridden to the school each day.

The school was keen to encourage as many families as possible to use bikes and scooters for their journey to school to encourage more environmentally friendly travel and to make the school grounds as car free and safe as possible.

Gomer Infant School’s bike shelter now provides storage for 50 bikes on site and has even doubled up as valuable additional all-weather shelter for sporting events and school fairs!

Although a substantial 24m x 2.5m, the new bike shelter that our in-house design team created for the school blends seamlessly with its surroundings thanks to its soft, curved lines and polycarbonate roof and walls that drench the space with light.

The steel frame of the cycle shelter structure is polyester powder coated. Polyester power coating enables schools to choose the colour of their structure – which in turn allows them to tailor it to their surroundings. In this case, Gomer Infant School worked with our on-site manufacturing team to choose a blue polyester powder coating that would match their school colours and sit seamlessly with the rest of the school’s buildings to create a streamlined look to the school grounds.

The polyester powder coating also adds to the durability of the bike shelter structure helping to weather-proof it against all elements. All our education structures and canopies come with industry leading 25-year guarantees meaning that some of the children biking to school today might well be storing their own children’s bikes under the very same shelter in years to come!
