All-weather plant display canopies form heart of new £8.5m flagship development

When Perrywood was looking to undertake a £8.5m flagship redevelopment of its Sudbury Garden Centre – the team’s vision was clear. While the centre would feature nearly 2000m² of premium indoor retail space and a new 200-seater restaurant, plants must remain the star of the show.

To realise Perrywood’s ambition, our expert in-house design team set about creating two vast new all-weather plant display structures – each measuring a staggering 60m x 12m – that would:

• Create a showcase browsing environment
• Protect valuable stock
• Enhance the customer experience
• Transform plant shopping from a seasonal to year-round draw
• Remove seasonal vulnerability from the core product range

Key features of the two vast new plant display canopies include:

• Barrel vaulted taper trellis structures for a bright and spacious feel
• Opal 60 roofing to maximise daylight while shielding customers and vulnerable plant ranges from harmful UV rays
• Automated frost curtains to protect seasonal stock and profit margins through winter
• Weather-responsive venting to create the optimal display and browsing climate
• Rainwater harvesting guttering to enable sustainable irrigation of plant display stock

Our carefully engineered solution and innovative design features are safeguarding plants, increasing dwell time and boosting commercial resilience year-round, enabling Perrywood to successfully achieve its vision of blending experience-led retailing with horticultural excellence at its new flagship site.
