School enjoys the benefits of a striking new all-weather social hub

As schools increasingly recognise the value of varied environments in boosting student wellbeing and performance, the demand for outdoor spaces that work year-round is on the rise. Five Acres School wanted to create just that – a bright, inviting, all-weather social and dining area that would become the new heart of their vibrant school community.

Having previously installed a large canopy at the school, we were delighted to be invited back to deliver another transformative upgrade.

The wow

The Five Acres High School team were keen to complete work during the school summer holiday to avoid disruption and so our expert education team swung into action. Designed, manufactured and installed during the school holidays, the new taper trellis dining canopy was delivered in just a few weeks – with zero disruption to school life.

Measuring an impressive 16m x 8m, the all-weather dining canopy now provides covered space for hundreds of students to relax, dine and connect – whatever the weather. By easing pressure on the indoor dining hall and giving the students the change to step into a fresh environment during breaks, the space supports wellbeing and has quickly become a much-loved social hub.

The design is sleek and modern with a monochrome palette: black seating and flooring contrast with an opaque white canopy to create a striking and inviting space that is surrounded by table tennis tables to encourage community and connection.

The generous new all-weather dining canopy is covered in our unique Opal 60 roofing fabric that allows 60% daylight penetration while screening out all harmful UV rays. This allows students to enjoy a light-drenched space even on the gloomiest winter days and to eat outdoors even on the most blisteringly hot summer days.

The result? A bold, functional, future-proof space that lets students enjoy the outdoors – come rain or shine.
