Gym giant goes all in with all-weather padel courts

David Lloyd – one of the UK’s most successful gym chains – came to us with significant ambitions to become one of the big hitters in the UK’s booming padel scene. Not only were they looking to install padel courts at many of their UK sites, but they were looking to go all in by ensuring members could use their new padel facilities year-round – whatever the British weather had in store…

With the gym group keen to install all-weather padel court facilities at multiple sites over a short period of time, our design team worked closely with the David Lloyd padel project team to create a canopy structure that would suit the needs and dimensions of multiple sites at once. Doing this enabled the group to keep costs down and to work to an ambitious UK-wide rollout plan.

Working closely with the David Lloyd team our in-house design and factory teams designed and manufactured a 12m span by 22m long barrel-vaulted canopy in galvanised steel that could cover a single court to offer effective all-weather protection – offering protection against wind, rain, sleet, snow and even harmful UV rays.

This canopy was such a hit at David Lloyd’s Emersons Green Club on the outskirts of Bristol, that the group went on to commission and install the same canopy for its Northwood club in Hertfordshire and its Farnham club in Surrey. At each site the brand new padel court canopies have been so well received ensuring the courts have been booked out constantly since their installation, with the result that David Lloyd is now planning the installation of many more all-weather padel facilities in the months ahead…
