Cantileverd canopy provides all-weather protection for the force's armed response vehicles and equipment

The brief

Having been through a significant transition of departmental locations, Greater Manchester Police needed to rethink the unique needs at each of their sites. A top priority was to provide all-weather protection for the equipment their armed forces unit would transport to and from armed vehicles each day.

Our response

We created a simple, high-rise cantilevered canopy to connect the Armed Force’s car park to the building, enabling seamless all-year round transition of armed equipment from vehicles to protected storage.

The high cantilevered canopy and generous dimensions created a feeling of space and enabled the force’s many different types of vehicles to be easily accommodated, while the steel structure was powder coated to seamlessly blend in with existing architecture.

The wow

The final structure covers a large space of 177m2 and has been used by the force to provide all weather protection for armoury transition as well as a valuable new year -round training space.
