After designing and installing four previous canopies at Arthur Mellows Village College, we were delighted to be approached again to create a new structure; a canopy for the school’s sixth form outdoor space.

We created a spacious 10m x 16m timber framed, barrel vaulted canopy that protected the school’s courtyard area whilst retaining its special outdoor feel.

The canopy was covered with our bespoke Opal 60 roofing fabric – created to offer a cost-effective alternative to standard tensile fabrics. Ingeniously Opal 60 allows 60% natural light to permeate, whilst still protecting students from harmful UV rays, enabling the creation of invitingly light, bright outside dining areas. In contrast, tensile fabrics typically only allow 15-30% light transmission, so often require additional lighting – a huge and avoidable expense.

The wow

As with all our structures, the canopy for this school came with our industry leading 25-year guarantee, ensuring the much-loved new communal area can be enjoyed by sixth form students for decades to come.
