NOTE: We have received feedback that while the pencils survived our testing in-house, the Royal Mail sorting machine has damaged a number of pencils in transit. Should this be the case, please call Joan or Fraser on 01243 55 44 55 and we will arrange a replacement.
Have you received our gift in the post?
Fantastic! Pop it in a pencil sharpener and you are ready to go. But this pencils story doesn’t stop there…
Inside the non-toxic, biodegradable end-cap are seeds. Once you have finished with the pencil, pop it in a pot (cap down), give it a little water and nurture the plant that will ‘sprout’ after a couple of weeks.
How much you get out of the process is up to you, but as a sustainable engineering and construction firm, we would love to see just how creative you can be, and how you can incorporate it into your lessons. We understand it would fit in especially well with KS2, but we hope Foundation and KS1 pupils may benefit too.
- Can you focus a science lesson around germination?
- Could you discuss how different materials break down differently over time?
- Could you work out the plants growth rate?
- You could even change the colour of the flowers using food dye!
It would be great to see how you get on. Share your progress and ideas using #notjustapencil and this autumn; we will present a free Young Engineers Education Pack (worth around £300) to our favourite.
At Fordingbridge we are passionate about sustainability, but we love engineering too!
