The Butterfly House at Landmark Forest Adventure Park is a fantastic new addition to the Highland visitor attraction. The 400m² building creates a truly tropical visitor experience nestled in amongst the park’s ancient pine trees.

Landmark approached Fordingbridge with the requirement of creating an iconic building, capable of providing a perfect environment for a visitor attraction to house butterflies, fish and tropical birds. Fordingbridge worked closely with Landmark and their Architect through a comprehensive design process, utilising our in-house design capabilities and experience to achieve a cohesive balance of functionality and wow factor.

The building’s design uses our proven tapered trellis design and takes it to the next level with half-trusses fanning out at either end to create great curves. The roof uses our unique inflated twin-skin system which allows daylight in whilst maintaining thermal properties and insulating the space.

Externally, glulam timber buttresses follow the radius of the roof curve to ground level creating a modern colonnade around the building’s perimeter. With a project duration of only eight months from initial conversation to completion on site, the project is a great example of how our integrated design and build approach enables speedy and successful solutions. This service ensured the exhibit was ready in time for the park’s Summer season. Programme certainty like this is a factor particularly important for Leisure sector clients.

The Butterfly House is now home to stunning butterflies from all over the world, fish and an amazing display of tropical flowers and plants.

“From first contact to final snagging I can’t find fault with Fordingbridge. They took our initial ideas – added so much to the concept stage – and then delivered a fantastic build that we were immediately totally impressed with. All on budget and at a price that was very competitive indeed. Nothing was a bother and when other contractors were making heavy weather of simple installations the Fordingbridge team forged on – I would recommend them and would use them again in an instant!”  Danny Fullerton, General Manager, Landmark Forest Adventure Park
