Working for Sheffield based Mechan, Fordingbridge were tasked with creating a covered external area for the Hitachi Rail rolling stock plant at Newton Aycliffe, County Durham.
As part of a larger project, including the design and installation of two 80 tonne traversers by Mechan, the canopy allows new stock to be worked on externally while protected from the weather.
The box-hoop canopy has a 6m span with a length of 31m and is mounted so as to allow smooth transition from both internal plant area and adjoining railway. The project involved close collaboration with Mechan to ensure engineering specifications remained on point.
More details of the project can be found on Railway Gazette.
