Fordingbridge are pleased to be utilising an innovative environmental product as a “guest feature” at their 2019 GLEE Stand this September.
Manufacturer ScanCom has launched DuraOcean, the first commercially available outdoor furniture made from ocean plastic. With each chair being made from 3.5kg of ghost gear (discarded fishing equipment), it recently won new product of the year at SOLEX and has been backed by The Eden Project.
The DuraOcean chair, pictured above in the Fordingbridge office, is made from recycled fishing nets, ropes and plastic recovered from the Ocean Recovery Project. Not only contributing to Ocean clean-up from a manufacturing perspective, the plastic chair also benefits from being fully recyclable, therefore helping to reduce waste throughout the products lifecycle.
Lifestyle Garden sales director Paul Cohen said: “The DuraOcean chair has been created to tackle a global issue – ocean plastic. Joining in the fight to eradicate plastic from our oceans – an issue that has been declared a worldwide crisis – feels like a natural and obvious choice.” With Fordingbridges’ own ethos of doing what we can to enhance our environment, the decision seemed like a natural choice.
“It certainly is a wonderful concept,” said Stephen Toone, Managing Director of Fordingbridge. “We take huge stock in our environmental impact, both commercially and personally, so it is great to be able to use this product, whilst also giving GLEE visitors a place to take in our stand.”
We have supported a number of ecological fundraising initiatives on a corporate level, such as Final Straw Solent which focuses on marine pollution, but many of us also go on litter-picks and sponsored events in our own time.
“As we’re based near the coast, it’s only natural so many of us here feel an affinity with the sea,” Stephen confirms. “The state of the oceans and our approach to plastic is a very real problem and it’s great that products such as these from Lifestyle Garden are coming through.
“We have long had a focus on sustainable engineering and we’re excited to be showcasing a number of our latest projects and innovations from under our beautiful hybrid canopy next to the Retail Lab. We will be on hand to catch up with existing customers, welcome new clients, and even give visitors a chance to look around some of our larger projects for themselves.”
The DuraOcean products will be on display on the Fordingbridge Statement Stand, number 19L20-M21 at the GLEE (Garden, Leisure, Equipment Exhibition) Expo at the NEC 10-12th September
