Giant Three Span Canopy for School

This vast structure, measuring in total 28m long x 18m wide, had to be craned into place speedily and efficiently over a weekend in order to avoid disruption to the school week.

The huge sections of the galvanised steel framework were manufactured in house at Arundel and assembled on site.

A 100 ton telescopic crane was used to crane the sections over the existing building. Each section was then manipulated carefully into position and lowered onto pre-installed stanchions.

The cladding is fire retardant Opal 20

School Canopies and Walkways are available in steel and in laminated timber.

Canopies and Walkways for schools used as shade structures are a very practical and effective means of protecting children from the risks of sunburn and skin cancer. In primary schools canopies alongside classrooms provide a valuable outside learning space.

School Canopies & Walkways by Fordingbridge Specialist Structures can be arranged within a school campus to form link canopies and provide protected walkways for students to walk between teaching blocks.

School canopies and walkways can also be adapted for use as:

Awnings for pram/pushchair parks
Al fresco dining areas
Bike sheds/cycle sheds
Entrance canopies
Outdoor canopy/canopies
Outdoor play areas
Outdoor shade canopy/canopies
Playground canopy/canopies
Playground shade canopies
Playground shelters
Shade canopy/canopies
Smoking shelters
Tuck shop kiosks

to provide excellent all weather protection for play and leisure activities.

Steel frameworks may be hot dip galvanised for a maintenance free life, powder coated or painted to complement existing buildings.

Roof claddings can be either Opal 60 which has an expected life of 8 years or a hard wearing triple wall polycarbonate which has an expected life of 15 years. Both fabrics are translucent, reduce UV transmission by at least 95% and meet appropriate British Standards for fire performance.
