Garden Centre Insulated Steel Building

Fordingbridge was contracted by Klondyke to create a stunning new insulated steel building at Houghton Hall in Carlisle.

The project was finished just in time for the garden centre to open for the all important Easter trading period.

Visitor numbers from the centre opening until end of April 2006 were over 40,000 in 16 days trading and turnover exceeded plans by 23% in the first month.

Bob Gault, Chairman of Klondyke Garden Centres Ltd, said of the completed project:

‘We have enjoyed working closely with Fordingbridge from the initial development of designs through to the completed construction on site. I believe that the Garden Centre sets new standards in garden centre design. The building has a real impact; it is bright and airy and provides an excellent garden centre environment.’

As part of the £5 million development project, Fordingbridge created a multi-span insulated building with a curved roof, a spectacular glazed frontage and a ceiling reaching ten metres at its highest point. With a basement and mezzanine in addition, a total of 6,100m² covered retail space has been created.

In the constantly changing Garden Centre industry, Fordingbridge Specialist Structures serve several purposes.

Pleasing timber entrance canopies and walkways guide customers to plant sales areas and indeed some double as all weather retail sales areas with plants on either side.

Wide span steel canopies are ideal for creating a protective and controlled environment in which to grow and nurture plants for retail sales.

Open sided wide span steel canopies protect customers from inclement weather conditions, facilitating continued sales throughout the garden season.

The increase in demand by the Garden Centre industry to keep the customers within the confines of the Garden Centre complex has resulted in a growth in sales of Fordingbridge insulated buildings for use as light airy cafeteria and as retail sales areas for household goods.

Indeed some Garden Centres carefully link a combination of Fordingbridge Specialist Structures to subtly guide their visitors around through a network of Canopies, Walkways, and Insulated Buildings.

In this way our canopies, walkways, link walkways and insulated buildings encourage customers to not only shop for plants but to browse around retail sales areas, to rest for snacks in cafeteria and browse again, thereby greatly increasing sales potential.

It can be seen then that Fordingbridge Specialist Structures can be used in garden centres for:

Cafeteria
Entrance canopies
Entrance porches
Farm shops
Plant sales areas
Retail sales areas
Sheltered walkways
