The brief was to create a light, airy entrance space integral to the existing building at Southampton train station but the challenge was to do it without being able to take any structural support from the building it was joined to.
The £100k solution was an elegant curved roof building with a cantilevered structure at its heart. A row of steel stanchions at the front of the canopy support a tapered trellis steel frame putting no structural load on the existing building.
As a striking design feature the stanchions extend through and above the roof as decorative steel masts.
At Fordingbridge we not only find a practical solution to fit your brief, we take pride in creating an aesthetically pleasing and robust structure too.
All of our Fordingbridge Specialist Structures can be designed and constructed as Mass Transit Structures for various applications.
Our highly versatile tension fabric canopies can be constructed in almost any shape or size. The BBC have a cantilevered tension fabric canopy which is used as a canopy for sheltering studio audiences awaiting entry to shows.
A quadruple conic tension fabric canopy provides an ideal sheltered bus interchange at East Midlands Airport.
A cantilevered bus shelter is an ideal all weather waiting area for school children in a Surrey school.
So for a diversity of applications including
Bike sheds
Bus shelters
Bus interchange areas
Waiting areas for theatre audiences or school children
Fordingbridge canopies & walkways, insulated buildings, tension fabric structures, or indeed a combination of two or three can prove the ideal design and build solution.
