Covered Walkway at the BBC

Studio audiences queueing outside the BBC were in need of protection from the weather.

In order to meet the objectives of working over a public pavement, Fordingbridge were in close contact with the Highways Authority. Combined with security issues and limited access to the site, this meant the whole project required careful and accurate planning. There were also severe limitations in keeping the new covered walkway structure in sympathy with the existing structures.

Fordingbridge designed and built a Tension Fabric covered walkway with stanchions neatly disguised behind an existing wall.

Now studio audiences at the BBC are able to await access to studios protected from weather and arrive fresh for shows!

All of our Fordingbridge Specialist Structures can be designed and constructed as Mass Transit Structures for various applications.

Our highly versatile tension fabric canopies can be constructed in almost any shape or size.

A quadruple conic tension fabric canopy provides an ideal sheltered bus interchange at East Midlands Airport.

Tapered trellis canopies have been built as bike storage areas at railway stations.

A cantilevered bus shelter is an ideal all weather waiting area for school children in a Surrey school.

So for a diversity of applications including

Bike sheds
Bus shelters
Bus interchange areas
Waiting areas for theatre audiences or school children

Fordingbridge canopies & walkways, insulated buildings, tension fabric structures, or indeed a combination of two or three can prove the ideal design and build solution.
